The Students for the Exploration and Development of Space chapter at UNC Chapel Hill hosted the first annual Caroline Space Symposium on March 31st from 11a.m. until 7:30p.m.

The entire conference can be found online at the above website.

The Carolina Space Symposium is a large conference themed around the intersection of current astronomy and physics research with progress in the space industry – both private and governmental.  The conference’s goal is to educate and connect students and community members who are involved in the space community, as well as inspire attendees of all ages of the promise there is beyond our atmosphere.

As far as topics we had:

  • how we’re going to manage interstellar travel
  • Life in the Solar System and Beyond
  • current missions to Titan and why we need to go!
  • entrepreneurship in the space industry
  • current topics in NewSpace and how NC almost has a spaceport
  • how space makes Earth more sustainable
  • opportunities for volunteers/non-engineers in the space world
  • and more!!!

We will be making the Carolina Space Symposium an annual event and we have number of sponsorships available for next year.  Just contact unc@chapter.seds.org if you are interested in advertising and making your company visible at this conference. This conference is not for profit and we are gladly accepting donations as well to help organize and bring premier speakers to Chapel Hill.
